Below are two new web tools that you can use with your students to analyze and polish their writings. These tools provide help with proofreading and editing. Students can use them to edit their drafts before they turn them in.
1- Quill
Quill is a is a free, web-based tool that provides personalized, interactive writing and grammar activities. Students using Quill learn writing and grammar skills by writing sentences and proofreading passages. You can create a class in Quill and invite your student to join it using the generated code. Once they join it they will be able to access the worksheets you assign to them. Quill provides several writing worksheets that you can use with your students to improve their writing skill. Quill also has over 150 lessons covering Common Core topics for grades 1-8. Each lesson is approximately 10-15 minutes in length.
2- Hemingway
Hemingway is a website that helps students edit their writings.Hemingway analyzes your writing passages looking for grammatical anomalies and errors. It highlights words, phrases and sentences that require editing and also provides a final grade on the general readability of that piece of writing. Hemingway is very easy to use and does not require any registration. Just head over to its homepage, click on " write" and start typing your text. You can also copy and paste your text directly into Hemingway editor. When you are done writing click on the " edit" button and you will be provided with a number of highlighted notes concerning the grammaticality of your passage.

Sometimes when I’m working on a piece (especially if the content is over 2,000 words), I restate the same point several times. Or even worse, when I use bullet points, I’m prone to repeating the same structure over and over again for each point.
