A Simple Guide to Create Narrated Comic Books Using iPad

May 6, 2014
Creating a narrated comic book can be a great way for students to tell stories in a fun and engaging way. There are a bunch of great iPad apps that students can use for this purpose. Below is a general outline of how you can proceed using different apps to help students create narrated comic books. I learned about this procedure from a book I have recently read by Greg Lulowiec .

1- Students use the following apps to create comic strips. When their comic strips are ready, they need to export them to their iPad camera roll.

Comic Life is an iPad app that provides you with the tools to create dynamic and vibrant comics. It enables you to create talking photos using full page templates and panel layouts. It also offers speech balloons, photo filers, comic lettering, shapes, shadows and effects to use with your photos.

2- To record a  video narration that accompanies the comic strips they created, students will need to use a video recording app such as Explain Everything. They can import the images they made into Explain Everything app then zoom into each scene while recording to focus on each concept. When they are done they can export the video to the camera roll.

3- Next, they open Book Creator and import the video they made into it. After tweaking it around they can finally export it to Drive or any other sharing app.
