A Wonderful Google Form Guide for Teachers

Google Forms is one of the powerful tools you want to make sure you have in your teaching toolkit.There are different ways you can use it with your students in class. You can, for instance, use it to create quizzes, polls, questionnaires, and surveys. You can also use it to design permission forms, absence slips, classroom events forms…you name it. The great thing about Google Forms, besides being free and easy to use, is the fact that it is integrated with Google Drive which means that any form you create is automatically saved in your Drive and you can access it anywhere you go with Internet connection.

I have already created a couple of visual guides on how to create a Google Form but when I came across this excellent video tutorial I just couldn't let go of it without sharing with it you here. This is probably one of the best tutorials you will find out there on Google Form. Though it is a little bit long (13 minutes) but it is really  entertainingly' insightful. I love Dottotech's style of presenting and I am sure you will as well.

In this video tutorial, Dottotech will walk you through the different steps to create a form for your class. To this end, he created a sample sign-out form for you to see how you can design the lay-out of the form and select the questions to embed in it. Then once the form is ready , you will learn the different options to share it and see how to collect responses from the form. Enjoy

Google Forms Released Two New Interesting Features

Google Forms is one of the powerful tools for creating surveys, polls, questionnaires and quizzes. Over the years, many updates have been added to Google Forms that enhanced its performance and made it ideal for classroom inclusion. The last update I covered in a previous post was about how to add  images and videos to your forms. Two days ago, Google released another new update that allows users to customize the background of their forms  and add new themes and headers to them. You  can also now upload your own images and use them as the background of a form you create through Google Forms. Here is how to do it:

1- To add a custom theme, just create a new form and click the “Change theme” button in the toolbar.

2- Select the theme you want and click on " customize it"

3- Now click on "form background" and/or "page background" to customize the form and page of your form respectively.

Here is How to Add Images and Videos to Your Google Forms

Google Forms do not have to necessarily contain only textual input, adding some multimedia materials like images and videos can even make these forms more appealing and content rich. It is almost a year now since Google integrated the features to add images and videos to Forms and below are two visual guides to help you use these two features:

1- Here is how you can add an image to your Form

To add an image to your form, click on the " add item" button displayed in your Google Forms and select " image" just as shown in the snapshot below.

There are three ways you can embed an image in your Google form:

1- You can drag and drop it in the designated area or you can click on " choose and image" and upload it from your hard drive.
2- You can upload images from the web by pasting their URLs in the content bar provided there
3- You can embed a snapshot into your forms. Just click on " take a snapshot " and you are good to go.
4- You can also add images from your Google Drive.

When you upload your image you can then give it a title and type in the hover text. The hover text is self explanatory, it is the words users will see when they hover on the image. The hover text is also important in cases when the image does not appear in a certain web browser.

You can also control the placement of your image: either aligning it to the right, centering it, or aligning it to the left.

If you want to change the image you selected ,you click on the " change" button right above the image and go through the process mentioned previously.

2- Adding videos to Google Forms

Now to add a video to your form, head over to your Google Drive account and click on 'create' then select forms. Select a template for your form and move on to next page where you have to click on "add item" and choose video.

Now you can either search for YouTube videos right from the popped-up pane or copy and paste the URL of the video you want to use.

You can also change the placement of the video by moving it to the left, right or centre.
