Edmodo Resources for Teachers A Comprehensive Chart

I have recently started posting a series of articles featuring a wide variety of Ed Tech tools, tips, tutorials, visuals, posters, and guides to help teachers effectively integrate technology in their classroom teaching. All of the resources I share in these lists have already been covered in separate posts here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning.The thing with blog posting is that new posts eat away older ones and as such so much of interesting and helpful content is being  buried in the archive. Twice every year, on the start of a new school year and on the first week of a new year, I revisit the  archive and repurpose those materials into lists handy for teachers to access from a single page.

This is How to Use Google Drive with Edmodo to Share Docs and Assignments with Students

During a workshop I facilitated today in university, I was surprised to find out that several teachers did not know that Google Drive is integrated with Edmodo so I thought to write about it here , probably some of you don't know about it either. The integration of Google Drive with Edmodo allows you to sync the content of your Drive with your Edmodo library so you can easily access and share your docs, files and folders with your Edmodo groups.

Here are three ways you can benefit from this integration:

1- Share:
Sync your Google Docs to your Edmodo library and easily share them with your groups or other Edmodo connections. You can also add your Google Docs to shared folders.

2- Collaborate: 
Group members can open shared Google docs from the Edmodo stream and all edits will automatically save. Host a backchannel through the Edmodo group for added collaboration.

3- Go Paperless:
 Create a paperless classroom by using Google Docs for assignments and submitting them through Edmodo.

To integrate Google Drive into your Edmodo, head over to your Edmodo account and click on the library icon as shown below then click on Google Drive.

Now click on " connect with Google Drive" . After you authorize the connection, you will be able to see the content of your Drive displayed in your Edmodo library. You can revoke this integration anytime you want by clicking on disconnect on the left hand side.

All The Resources Teachers Need to Start Using Edmodo in Class

Edmodo is one of my favourite free learning platforms that I have been recommending for teachers and students over the last couple of years. The potential of Edmodo in education is huge and there are a plethora of ways to leverage this potential in classroom teaching.

As a teacher, Edmodo can help you :

• Provide your students with an enriching writing environment where they can compose, collaborate and share their writing projects with peers, teachers and family.
• Encourage real-time discussion and extend learning beyond the classroom through using Edmodo as a backchannel.
• Create a global classroom where you can invite students from other parts of the world to meet your students and develop language skills, communicational skills, skills of initiative, problem solving, self awareness and working collaboratively in teams.
• Maintain a  communicational channel with parents and keep them updated on the classroom activities throughout the whole year.
• Create book clubs where students can get to develop their reading and writing skills.
• Create a teacher lounge where teachers from your school can discuss ideas and share content.
• Create a group for your class and use it to communicate upcoming assignments, quizzes, tests, due dates, class events, announcements and many more.
• Create alumni groups where students can keep in touch and stay connected with each other.

For those of you who have not yet tried Edmodo, the resources below are a good start. They will provide you with the necessary materials and know-how to help you tap into the educational potential of this learning platform.

Two Things Every Teacher Should Be Able to Do on Edmodo

Edmodo is a great online platform with huge educational potential for teachers. Since its launch a few years ago, Edmodo is being used now by huge number of teachers and schools from all around the globe. Given this mounting importance of Edmodo in teaching, I created  a section where you can find a plethora of resources, guides, and materials on how to leverage the power of this web tool in your classroom, check out here.

Today, I am sharing with you two important things every teacher should be able to do on Edmodo. These are : creating a classroom group and adding apps to this group.

1- Create a classroom group

One of the great things I like about Edmodo is the ability to create a group for your class and invite students to join this space. Once the group is set up you can then upload files to it and publish posts for other to see.

To create a group click on " Groups" then "create".

Give your group a name and select the grade of your class and the subject area.

Customize the setting of your group as you see fit.

Invite students to your group

There are two ways to invite your students to join your class group. You can either click on " group code" to generate a specific code to share with them via email or you can click on " join URL" and then click on "invite".

2- Adding apps to your group

Now that your group is created you can start adding apps to it. The good thing about this feature is that any apps you add, students will be able to access it using their own Edmodo accounts. This is how to do it.

A- Click on the store icon as displayed in the screenshot below

B- Search for the apps you want to install. You can browse apps by subject from the column on the left hand side or use the search bar to look for a specific app.

C- Once you find the app you want , click on "free"

D- Next select the group you to install your app in, tick the agreement box then click on install.

E- A pop-up window will tell you that your app is installed and ready to be used.

Snapshot- A Great New Edmodo Tool For Teachers

I just learned about this new Edmodo tool from Matt Bergman and I want you to take note of it as well. Edmodo has recently released a new feature called Snapshot which allows teachers to address Common Core standards in their quizzes. To set up Snapshot, just click on "Snapshot" icon from within your account and select the class you are working with. Pick the grade level and then choose the content area of the common core standard you want to address ( Math or ELA ). Snapshot will automatically generate a set of questions which you can customize as you like. You can click on any specific standard listed on the left column to generate questions that align with it. Each student will get a slightly different set of questions. Snapshot also allows you to get real time data from your students when they finish working on their quiz. You will be able to see how many students completed it, the different standards addressed, and the number of questions answered.
