A Great Resource of Science Lesson Plans and Activities for Teachers

Science Netlinks is a great resource website for science teachers. I came across it while I was compiling a list of the best science games for students. Science NetLinks is a project of the Directorate for Education and Human Resources Programs of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. At Science NetLinks, you'll find teaching tools, interactives, podcasts, and hands-on activities, and all of it is free! Science Netlinks provides a wide variety of science lesson plans and other materials that teachers can use with their students in class.

Science Netlinks is free and does not require any registration. To use it, head over to its main page and use the search bar to look for science materials relevant to the grade you teach. You can search for content using grades from k-12, using themes such as : earth science, technology, astronomy, biology, health. You can also search content for lessons, tools, collections, after school resources and science updates.

All of the resources are Internet based and free to everyone. Lessons and activities can be printed or used online. Many of the interactives, esheets, and tools work great on an interactive white board or in a computer lab. All of the resources are designed to be delivered in a variety of formats and classroom settings.

8 Excellent Science Games for Students

Here are some good resources to help your students learn science concepts in a fun and more engaging ways. These are a bunch of websites where students can play science games and apply science knowledge to problem solving. Some of these resources embed tips, ideas  and lessons plans that teachers can employ in their classrooms.

1- Jefferson Lab

Jefferson Lab features a wide variety of educational games focused mainly on science and math. All the games are web based and do not require any software download. However, your browser should have Javascript enabled to play these games.

2- Wonderville

Wonderville is another wonderful platform that you can use to find science based games. Wonderville features a section called "fun science" packed full of science games, hands-on activities, videos, and comics.

3- Ecokids

Ecokids is a website developed by Earth Day Canada for environmental science topics. It has two sections one for teachers and another one for kids. The kids section contains science games and activities designed to help students learn about environmental science issues. It also features contests and a section for homework help.

4- Museum of Science

Museum of Science Chicago features a section called classroom activities where teachers can search for hands-on activities on science. These activities span different topics and grade levels. Just select the grade you teach and choose a topic and you will be provided with a list of science activities related to your query.

5- How to Smile

How to Smile is another good free website that provides science activities, tools, and services curated by educators and designed specifically for school-aged kids. Howtosmile.org spotlights hands-on and interactive activities, both physical and virtual, that involve doing and learning. Activities take many forms, from downloadable lesson plans to how-to videos to online interactive games.

6- Common Sense Science Games page
This page from Common Sense media features a number of science games and apps for kids.These science learning tools cover complex concepts in ways that kids can understand -- and keep them engaged while doing it! Kids can learn about light, space, seasons, and more.

7-Science kids

Science Kids provide an array of free online science activities covering different topics such as animals, plants, physics, biology, light, sounds…etc. It also features a section for science experiments and games that students can use to develop their science facts. There are also quizzes, projects, videos,images and many other science related materials to use with your students in class.

8- Primary Games

Primary Games offers kids games related to science, math and reading. These games span different categories like adventure, racing, classic arcade, action, strategy puzzles and dress up games. All of these games are free to play.

Hundreds of Free Science eBooks for Teachers and Students

Over the last few days, I have been sharing here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning some useful resources that teachers can draw on to find educational free eBooks. After citing the 13 best sites for free eBooks, today I am sharing with you a great platform called Science Books that provides free online science books. I have gone through some of the links embedded there and found them really interesting.

Science Books Online lists free science e-books, textbooks, lecture notes, monographs, and other science related documents. All texts are available for free reading online, or for downloading in various formats. eBooks on Science Books are organized into  the following categories :

Four Good Resources for Science Teachers

1-Science Buddies

Science Buddies is a great resource where teachers can find inspiration for science fair projects, experiments, and lesson plans. There are actually over 100 project ideas in all areas of science.

2- New York Times Science Page

New York Times Science page features a wide variety of short video covering an array of scientific phenomena. Videos are arranged int mean categories: Science Take and CreatureCast.

3- Science 360

Science 360 is another great library of science videos that teachers can use with their students. Videos in Science 360 are searchable either via topic or through series.

4- Reactions Everyday Science

Reactions Everuday Science is a YouTube channel that provides illustrative tutorials and videos on different scientific events.

Brain Stuff- A Resource of Great Video Explanations for Science Teachers

Today while I was updating my list of YouTube video channels I am subscribed to I came across this wonderful channel "Brain Stuff" which features video explanations of a wide range of scientific phenomena. While the content is ideal for science teachers, anyone else curious to find answers to vexing questions such as " why do we sleep?", "  why does hot water freeze faster than cold water", "what happens when I have a hangover", "does drinking ice water burn calories" and many more, will find it useful.
