Great Summer Reading List for Teachers and Educators

Looking for some good titles to read this summer? The resources below will probably be of some help. These are collections of books curated with teachers and educators in mind. They span a plethora of education-related themes and topics and some of them also touch on the area of personal development and motivation. Sift through the titles and see if there is anything worth your reading time which I am pretty sure there are many. Enjoy

1- Great Books for Teachers

This is a Pinterest board I created over a year ago and where I share books I have read. The board features over 100 books all of which are education focused. There are over 8000 subscribers to this board and if you haven't already joined us make sure you come aboard.

2- Washington Post Summer Reading List for and by Teachers

Here are books for and recommended by teachers, from Scholastic Instructor magazine and titled the “Ultimate Summer Reading List for Teachers:”

We searched far and wide to come up with a list of great books for you to crack open during the summer break—and, most important, we asked our teacher advisers and Facebook teachers what they were looking forward to reading (or rereading!). We received an avalanche of interesting responses. It was hard to choose just a few but here are some newer releases that you can pick up at your bookstore or download to an e-reader, plus teachers’ dog-eared favorites.

3- TED Ed Summer Reading List

TED-Ed asked some of their favorite educators and staff to weigh in on the best books for students, teachers and all other summertime scholars to crack into during the break. Whether you’re swinging in a hammock, laying out on a beach or still working 40-hour weeks, these titles (which run the gamut from art history to health to the classics and beyond) are sure to keep your brain stimulated during the warm weather months.

Looking for Books to Read This Summer? Here Are Two Great Places to Start with

Summer vacation is around the corner and it is about time you start deciding upon your summer reads. While it's hard to share a list of suggested books for summer reading because such a list will definitely be built on a personal choice and what I like to read is not necessarily something you would be interested in and vice versa. Instead, I am sharing with you two useful platforms where you can search for books to read. There are several other book platforms that offer similar services but I am only sharing the two I trust the most.

1- Goodreads
Goodreads is my favourite book platform out there. Goodreads is not only a website that provides book reviews and recommendations but it also builds a community around what people read through engaging readers in discussion threads around different titles. You can add friends to your list and be able to browse what they have on their bookshelves. You can also comment and rate the books they read. Goodreads also allows you to search for books by title, author, isbn or list. And if you have bought books on Amazon you can easily add them to you bookshelf.

Another great feature that Goodreads offers to users is the "reading challenge". You can set a reading challenge by selecting the number of books you want to read for this year and each time you log on to Goodreads you will see an evaluation bar in blue that indicates how many books you have read so far and the number of books remaining for you to finish your challenge.
Goodreads is also available for iPad .


2- Common Sense Media Book Reviews

Common Sense Media book reviews section is a place where you can sift through hundreds of books specifically curated to meet the needs of teachers, educators, parents, and students.  You can search for books using different criteria. For instance, you can search for books according to a specific age category (from age 2 to 17). In fort of each book there is a number of stars that indicate its popularity. Clicking on the title of any book you find will take you to a page where you will be able to read a short synopsis about that book, save the book to your shelf (only available for registered members), and there are also purchase links that you can use to buy the book from Amazon or iTunes.
